Navigating this human life can be challenging. It pulls at our hearts, tests our patience and tires our soul at times. For many of us, food becomes a place of comfort and reassurance when life becomes difficult and stressful. And while I would like to believe I eat extra carrot sticks when stressful periods enter my life, that would be a lie! Comfort food is rarely our healthiest choices and we often couple that with eating at times of day that are also not supportive to our body (like later a night).
The biggest challenge with this kind of eating is that, on some level, it is compulsive and based in cravings. These unhealthy patterns and relationships with food are very difficult to break. And when we do try to break out of these routines, we feel guilty, angry or disappointed in ourselves when we oftentimes fail. This results in eating more because we feel awful about ourselves. And so the cycle continues.
Be Kind to Yourself
First I want to start off by saying, be gentle and kind to yourself while you walk this path. Humans tend to hold themselves to standards that are much higher than the expectations they have of their friends, families and even clients. We’re really good at beating ourselves up when things do not work out as expected. This often gives us the perfect excuse to give up and not bother trying!
Ensure you allow for enough space and grace as you figure out what will work best for you. While it does not take long to create a habit, it does take time to break it, especially those that are so deeply engrained in our bodies and minds. Now this is not an excuse to not try! Please don’t take my words to say that you shouldn’t have any standards; just make them realistic and attainable.
Root Cause
The flower essences I will share with you today should not be viewed as a “cure” for emotional eating. Instead I want you to see them as a supportive friend, there to hold your hand while you figure out the most important piece of this puzzle. Why are you eating in the first place?
If we cannot figure out the root cause of our issue, we are simply working based on a symptomatic approach. In my experience, just masking or dealing with the symptoms does not bring true and full health. Even if it’s hard and causes you to face realities that are unpleasant, getting to the root of your emotional eating will be what changes your life.

Chestnut Bud Flower Essence
One of my most used remedies in clinic, Chestnut Bud is for folks who tend to repeat the same mistakes over and over again. While the first three flower essences were from the well-known Bach Flower line, this one is of my own creation. For me the addition of Black Eyed Susan is the metaphorical icing on the cake.
