In this very moment I am feeling truly blessed. I am working in my  new favourite spot which is my covered deck, gazing out onto my garden. This truly idyllic scenario is made even better with the refreshing and delightful addition of a cool glass of rose petal lemonade.

Another wonderful blessing is the abundance my rose bushes have provided me with this year. I have been brewing and concocting up a storm thanks to the plethora of blooms I have been able to gather and collect.

If you haven’t seen my video on the magic, myth and medicine of roses, I highly recommend you take a peek.

In this video I mention a delightful creation I dreamed up one day. The link to the recipe for Rose Damiana Cacao Elixir can be found here.

Still blessed with so many blooming roses, I promised my son I would make him a lemonade for him to enjoy. Turns out it is so truly delicious and divine that I must share the recipe with you all!

Rose Petal Lemonade

This recipe can be made using both fresh or dried rose petals, however if you do have access to fresh I highly recommend that. Due to the delicate flavour of rose petals I recommend a neutral tasting sugar such as white sugar or organic cane sugar. The flavour of honey or coconut sugar would overwhelm the flavour of the roses quite easily.

Simple Rose Syrup

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Combine your roses, sugar and cane sugar into a pot
  • Bring to a boil and immediately reduce to a low simmer
  • Continue to simmer for approximately 10 minutes
    • At this point you will notice that the petals will lose their colour as that wonderful flavour seeps into the water
  • Strain out your simple syrup and allow it to cool

You will definitely have leftover syrup. I found the above recipe is enough to make two batches of lemonade. Store the extra syrup in the fridge for future lemonades or start to experiment with other beverages!

Rose Petal Lemonade

Ingredients

  • 4 cups of water
  • 1-1/2 cups of rose petal simple syrup
  • 1 cup of lemon juice
    • You’ll need about 5 lemons
  • 2/3 -1 of a cup of organic cane sugar

Instructions

  • Combine the simple syrup, sugar and lemon juice into a very large measuring cup or bowl
    • Personally I found 2/3 of a cup of sugar was enough, but if you prefer a sweeter drink you can add up to a cup
  • Whisk well until all of the sugar is absorbed
  • Top off with 4 cups of water
  • This made enough to fill two 1 litre mason jars
  • Enjoy cool or chilled with ice!

I hope you enjoy this rose petal lemonade as much as my family did.

With love,
