BuJoPin

My friend Amelia introduced me to the concept of the bullet journal. I will admit the first time I watched Ryder’s video on the concept I thought it was slightly complicated. I was sleepy and not really paying attention. But on her insistence that I will LOVE it, I watched it again. I was intrigued…

Then I found Boho Berry. Now I’m hooked.

I honestly don’t know how I survived without my bullet journal before this!

First things first. Watch Ryder’s video. It’s four minutes and it explains the basic concept.

The bullet journal combines all your to-do lists, day planner and journaling needs into one convenient location. Things are easy to find and reference and his system for migrating tasks into the future (or ditching them because they aren’t relevant or important anymore) is brilliant. It’s completely customizable so you can keep it simple like Ryder does in his video or you can get amazingly create like Boho Berry does. Mine is somewhere in the middle.

The Basic Layout

Here I will share with you some photos from my bullet journal. For more detailed information on how to set up your journal I recommend you visit bulletjournal.com/get-started/ The index and key are items not to be skipped! I have my key flagged so I don’t have to waste precious memory power remembering what colours/symbols mean what.

For my first run through I followed Ryder’s system pretty closely with some inspiration from Boho Berry. I decided that as much as I love being creative, that I didn’t want my bullet journal to become a time suck. I have ENOUGH of those in my life (thank you Facebook, Pinterest and Netflix).

My Index - Just like an index in a book it makes things easy to find (as long as you number your pages)

Key2

My Key – I used all of Ryder’s bullets and then added in some others I found on Pinterest. I could see this changing in the future but that is the beauty of the system. Nothing is set in stone!

Now I’ll share with you my monthly layout and the daily spreads. The dailies have already changed since I started bullet journaling as I’ve discovered some things that worked and some that didn’t. The grey spots are on purpose to keep the names of my family, clients and my son’s specialists/doctors private.

My Monthly Spread - on the left I have the days of the months and any important dates and appointments. On the right are the goals for the month and where I draw my daily tasks from.

While I just loved the idea of the spiraldex I found it difficult to use and hard to keep track of how I was really spending my time. So after a week I adopted Boho Berry’s time tracker (which is the horizontal bar at the top). Everything is colour coded to how I spend my time.

Personally I enjoy adding the weather as well as the sunrise and sunset. It keeps me mindful of the seasons, weather patterns and what’s happening with Mother Nature outside my door.

Keeping track of my water intake (and just as a note each box is a full 500ml mason jar) has made me accountable for how much liquid I’m taking in during a day. I’ve noticed that I’m drinking less coffee in order to drink more water! How awesome is that.
